Hello, so here is my build from couple ears ago. it performed very well for what I needed it to but it's time to upgrade. Can someone advise me for what should I get, I want AMD Ryzen processor and if that is really an option with my build, I'm the farthest person from a person who knows about computers.

Storage: Crucial MX300 275GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($69.98 @ Newegg)

Solution
Spending more for 16gb ram, isn't a bad idea, really. A 2400g, for 4c/8t or a 1600 with 6c/12 isn't a bad idea either, for a bit of longevity with regards to multitasking ability. The only bonus to the 2400g is the integrated graphics would allow you to keep using your system, should your graphics card die. Also want to point out Ryzen 2 is due out sometime this month, iirc.

You can reuse your storage, GPU, & PSU (& should be able to reuse the case, since this is also a Mini-ITX motherboard). Just in case it doesn't let you just reactivate Windows, make sure you back up your files first.

I was hoping to be around $300, but can spend 400-500 if the upgrade is substantial.

$300 is good for a upgrade.

Although if you could get a 2x8gb kit that would be better.

Don't I have a pretty much same thing going on with my memory ? it looks same to me but again I don't know anything as far as computers go.

Bad selection of CPU for this user. The Ryzen APU will be wasted with his GTX 1060 3GB.

Graphics are not what I'm shooting for, I don't play games that much anymore. This is used for a home office computer, I have to have bunch of tabs open at the same time that refresh automatically and yeah, just multitasking since I watch videos when I work if it's pretty slow, but still have to have other tabs open in a browser that are constantly refreshing.

Oh sorry, I see that you meant that my video card isn't going to be used much with that CPU, for some reason I thought you meant that that CPU is too good for my Video Card, but you meant opposite. Can you suggest a better way to do it please ?

It would be a waste if I went with the 1200 or 1300X as the 2200G performs the same but also has the iGPU which is a nice option in case something happens to the 1060. Also the 2200G/1200 or 1300X would still be a big upgrade over that 880K.

If multitasking is more of the focus and the OP can spend more then I'd look at the 2400G/1600 or even 1700 if the extra cores/threads are required.

What about the memory then ? as I mentioned mine looks the same, is the other one have different socket or just newer and faster ?

Your current RAM is DDR3 but the newer CPU's/Motherboards require DDR4, also Ryzen works better with higher speeds which is why I went with the 2800mhz.

Thanks for explaining, very helpful.
Can you elaborate on this ? and maybe show a build ?

This is along the lines of what I would suggest in your case.

Solution
The biggest thing will probably be ram. Really, since the op isn't a gamer, if he wanted to save money, could even look at the ryzen 5 1400. That would give 4 cores and 8 threads similar too the 2400g, though you'd forgoe the integrated graphics. But that would allow a little more budget free for ram.

If he's using Google chrome for example, I think chrome can pretty well eat ram, especially if you have a lot of tabs etc open at the same time.

It is faster, I guess it depends on budget. If op isn't gaming, he may not see the difference. I thought 2400g was closer to 170. However, I see Amazon has it for 162. So at that you aren't talking much money.

If the op goes for an apu, then I concur, get the 2400. Otherwise, get the 1600 if practical.
