?How to upgrade gaming PC?

Hi,
Can anybody tell me the best ways to upgrade my gaming PC?
The specs currently are:
Processor: Intel Core i5-3570K CPU @ 3.4 GHz
8 GB RAM
64-bit OS
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
6 GB memory

My guess is installing another graphics card would be best. Is there a certain card that pairs best with my current card, or does it matter?
How could I make modern games run at their max settings and/or at 60-120 Hz?

My budget will be ~$500, but the less I spend the better.

Aftermarket cooler and oc that i5 (assuming mobo and psu are good)

Then ditch the 660 (sell if can). Buy a 480 or a 1060. Both will run new games near max at 1080p60. Most games.

can you link to a good guide for oc'ing?
also why not add another graphics card instead of replacing it?

660 old and average. You would need another 660 which is a poor investment. Sli can be iffy.

Google 'i5 3570k guide'. Different for all. I pushed the clocks until crashed. Then bumped.voltage. You will need to know your bios settings inside out and understand the terminology. Even if you get 4ghz it's a decent boost.
