News How to Upgrade to Windows 11 Right Now

I think the "Windows 11 System Requirements: Does Your PC Qualify?" section should be farther down. If Windows Update offers the Windows 11 upgrade, then there's no reason why you should check if your PC qualifies, since Windows Update already did that for you.

Also, it's funny how Tom's "Windows 11 download page" link works, but Microsoft's doesn't: Ways to install Windows 11 (microsoft.com) (check the "Windows 11 software download page" link)

I tried the instructions in the 'How to Use Installation Media to Force an Upgrade' section', to try and upgrade from Windows 10 21H1 in a Vmware VM, and I got a message saying the PC doesn't meet requirements and it wouldn't let me continue.

I then tried with BypassTPMCheck, BypassRAMCheck and BypassSecureBootCheck in the correct place in the registry and all set to '1' and it still wouldn't let me continue.

Any ideas please?

Thanks,

I'm sure Windows 11 is wonderful. However, my my PC currently runs all my software and the device drivers for my peripherals work just fine. I'm pretty sure once I upgrade to Windows 11 that won't be the case. I'm more interested in an article titled "How To Cling Windows 10 By Your Fingernails As If Dangling Over A Cliff's Edge Above Volcano For As Long As Possible".

My systems does not meet Windows 11 requirements but I do wonder if I'll get prompted to upgrade anyway.
You will not.

My also non-compatible system, from yesterday:

Thanks, used the upgrade assistant to upgrade from Windows 10, it flagged up one incompatible program during installation, once I removed it I ran it again and all went smoothly.

Alright. Time to upgrade my FX 8320, 32GB DDR 1600, Evo 850 240GB with my TPM 1.2, and Legacy Boot. I'll be using that script that bypasses all of that.

Now this is a test bench PC, usually used for just wiping / cloning / imaging drives so no data on this machine, but this is perfect machine for me to test this so called "No Updates" as i have tons of clients with perfectly capable PC's. Got multiple Dells from first Gen Core to 7th gen laying around as well that I will be testing too. Just want to see how stable it will run.

Hoping WSUS program will be updated for Windows 11, and if so if I can run update script to update all the latest updates and then the client script to actually install them. They only said no updates though windows updates. Never saw anything about you can't install them manually.

MS said they say 50% more crashes with CPU's that don't meet the min requirements, but they never said how many crashes there were exactly. 1 2 on a normal machine? so i get 2 or 3 crashes now? like really.

Try the Github Page here and run that script.

I was able to bypass a second gen i5 and legacy boot. The Dell Optiplex has TPM 1.2 which it allowed still.

At first I used the reg hack on clean install. Worked fine.

Then I couldn't do an inplace upgrade until i found this script. Did and inplace upgrade just fine. This was with the beta. Will be using the actual release on my old PC listed in post above here tomorrow for testing.

Thanks but does that only bypass the TPM requirement, as I also get messages about the processor and Secure Boot requirements?

I have also done the registry hack on a clean install and that worked fine for me too but I don't have a valid Windows licence key to use for that one so I was trying to upgrade an activated Windows 10 system,

What CPU do you have?

It is telling the processor is incompatible, because that is 5 generations too old.

Why Win 11? By the time Windows 10 falls off support in 2025, that thing will be 14 years old.
Time for something new.

Thank you for the processor information.

Why Win11? I wasn't trying to install it on my main PC, rather I was using a Vmware VM to evaluate if I could get it to look something like the 'old' Operating Systems such as XP used to look. On the unactivated clean installation I managed to complete, I managed to get it looking something like using 3rd party products such as Classic Shell and Winaero Tweaker. However, I can't fully personalise it as I can't activate it.

Where do you get your processor information from please?

Thanks,

Ok, I now have an activated Windows 11 VM system, upgraded from Windows 10 21H1.

To complete the upgrade, I did the following:-

1) I browsed to this URL:- https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11?ranMID=24542&ranEAID=kXQk6*ivFEQ&ranSiteID=kXQk6.ivFEQ-kHoLEHrsN3w2hn79EUiRLg&epi=kXQk6.ivFEQ-kHoLEHrsN3w2hn79EUiRLg&irgwc=1&OCID=AID2200057_aff_7593_1243925&tduid=(ir__vfc2iix1cckf6xmlzg20m1oqru2xrc9hdtv6jicp00)(7593)(1243925)(kXQk6.ivFEQ-kHoLEHrsN3w2hn79EUiRLg)()&irclickid=_vfc2iix1cckf6xmlzg20m1oqru2xrc9hdtv6jicp00

2) I clicked the 'Download Now' button in the 'Create Windows 11 Installation Media' section to create a Windows 11 kit on a USB drive.

3) I then browsed to this URL:- https://gist.github.com/AveYo/c74dc...b15#file-skip_tpm_check_on_dynamic_update-cmd

4) I copied the Skip_TPM_Check_on_Dynamic_Update_v2.cmd file which is about a quarter of the way down the page.

5) On my Vmware VM, I ran the Skip_TPM_Check_on_Dynamic_Update_v2.cmd I'd just created.

6) I then ran Setup.exe from the Windows 11 Installation Media I created earlier on the USB drive.

7) On the 'Install Windows 11' screen, I clicked 'Change how setup downloads updates' and selected 'Not at the moment', then clicked Next.

8) I then got a screen which said 'This PC doesn't currently meet Windows 11 system requirements', with a list of why it doesn't.

9) I then clicked the Back button.

10) I then clicked 'Next' again and, strangely, this time, I didn't get the screen which said 'This PC doesn't currently meet Windows 11 system requirements' and instead it went through to the 'Applicable Notices and licence terms' screen.

11) I was then able to complete the upgrade.

I have no idea why I had to go back from the 'This PC doesn't currently meet Windows 11 system requirements' screen and click Next again for this to work.

I tried the same process on a second VM and got the same behaviour.

Thanks to those who helped in this thread,

There are TWO Scripts in that file! It should bypass them all. I just used it to update my FX 8320 TPM 1.2 Legacy boot to upgrade form 10 to 11.

There is v1 and v2. I needed to use v2 on my AMD to get it to upgrade. didn't work on the v1.

Regards,

Just saw this XD yea need that v2 to work on some systems.

Also the whole having to go back and then forward again is because it does delete some dll's and stop the setup from accessing some things so that may have been why. I didn't get to stop the check the first time.

I am also currently getting "Updates" on my "Unsupported" System

I just received that banner where windows ask me if i wanna download and install. I downloaded it for like 2hrs and now it said "Installing". I came back to check after a few minutes and the download restarted.
Does anyone know what should i do? The download takes forever bc of my not so great internet connection.
Thanks!
