How to upgrade windows xp 32 to Vista 64bit. Please help.

Hi, I recently purchased windows 64bit ultimate and can't install. I have an alienware ALX computer which I purchased a couple years back. I am a newbie at this, seriously need help or my vista ultimate will be useless. Please help!

Upgrade isn't an option... you must clean install. The Vista setup will back up your current user files in a folder called Windows.old. However, it's still a really good idea to back everything up before proceeding. There is no upgrade path from 32 to 64-bit.
 
I see. I tried doing a clean install and vista won't start up, it just freezes.

You think it has something to do with my hardware? Should I format the drive? This is so time consuming.

And now I think I f'ed up my Blu ray drive. I get this I/O device error
