Hey everyone
I'm looking to upgrade my current old pc with a budget of around $350 AUD(i'm from australia), what i've come up with are

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83Ghz Quad-Core Processor ($85.00)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper T4 70.0 CFM Rifle Bearing CPU Cooler ($32.00)
Motherboard: Asus P5G41C-M LX Micro ATX LGA775 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($49.00)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($67.00)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R7 260X 2GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($119.00)
Total: $352.00

My current cpu is a dual core e5400 with the mobo listed (Asus P5G41C-M LX Micro ATX LGA775) , the rest im not mentioning becuase i no they need the upgrade.
PSU: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-eXtreme-Power-Plus-500-W-Power-Supply-Review/728/10. i think my PSU is that one. im unsure what my uncle put for me when he built my PC.

- is the q9550 a good cpu with my listed mobo?
- will it bottleneck the gpu i listed? if so would a r7 250 sapphire 2gb ($95) be a good choice?
- can i overclock my cpu with this board? or is it not worth the try?
- im really unsure if the gpu, ram and HDD are compatible with the mobo i just used pcpartpicker to do this.
- the prices are listed myself because im purchasing them from a vendor thats not listed on pcpartpicker ( MSY if anyone is interested)

Solution
Yes, the Q9550 is supported and is a fine choice. You should be able to overclock. (Not recommended with that power supply given its initial quality and age)

R7-260X is a low/mid-range card. There will be no bottlenecks.

If you can push it for 8GB of memory, that would be more contemporary. (though with DDR4 soon to become mainstream it may not be worth it)

ah ok nice, was really concerned about the bottleneck.
should a o.c to around 3.4 ghz be stable with my supported psu and mobo or to high? or will that not make much of a difference and i should jst leave it at stock (2.83ghz)?
4gb should be enough, plus i can use the 1600mhz ram with my 1333mhz supported mobo right? it'll just adjust to 1333mhz when installed?

Depends on if your old ram is DDR2 or not. You can't use all four slots at once as they are not the same type. You only have 2 slots per memory type.

To get 8GB at all you would have to use 2x4GB sticks in either DDR2 or DDR3 (DDR3 is cheaper at the moment)

No real reason not to overclock as long as you keep it cool. Basically free performance at the expense of power draw.
