[SOLVED] How to use a powered USB hub as a USB cable extender.

I have read numerous articles online that you can extend USB cable length limitations by introducing a powered USB hub but I'm not exactly for sure how this works because that is not what a hub was designed for.

I have purchased 2 - 15 ft. USB 3.0 Type A cables and a powered hub to extend the distance of a camera. Naturally, I wasn't surprised when I ran one cable from my PC to the powered hub, connected my second cable to the hub and then to the camera, and the camera is "not detected".

Can anyone shed some light on this hub/extender mystery and if so, maybe provide a trick to to make it work?

I'm not convinced any old "hub" will do.

With increasing any signal beyond it's limitations, you typically need to amplify/repeat the signal.
That requires a chipset in the cable/housing to do so.

Try a shorter cable to the hub, USB cables past 10 feet tend to get flaky without boosters.
