Hey Guys
i just installed a new CPU cooler
so i want to test how it performs
i havent overclocked my CPU

all i want it that the program tests the max temperatures on the current voltage and clocks
i dont want the system to automatically increase the voltage
how do i make the program do that?

Quite easy actually.

Open AIDA64
Click on Tools -> System Stability Check
Uncheck all boxes besides Stress CPU (You can also check Stress FPU if you want unrealistic temperatures, such as Prime95 would do)
Start the Stress Test.

You can review all information about your System within the tabs on the System Stability Test.

so this will not increase the voltage on its own?

I ran the test for about 10 minutes
the CPU temp sits around 45 degrees average
however while im playing games like GTA 5
the temp averages about 55 degrees
how can the temp on a game which does not use 100% of the CPU at all times be more than a test that runs the CPU at 100% load continuously?

and the statistics of the test say that the core voltage is 1.008 volts
thats alright... it means the CPU is not being overvolted by the test
but there are 3 other statistics which say +3.3V, +5V and +12V
what do these 3 signify?

The +3.3V, +5V and +12V are just showing you the voltages of those rails which should stay steady around those values. If you see those dropping then something is wrong.

When you ran the test for 10 minutes did you have everything deselected? That will show you the stability of your CPU but it will not lead to the highest temps. To get the highest temps ensure that Stress CPU, Stress FPU, and Stress GPU(s) are selected as that will crank everything up and provide you with the highest temps you should be seeing in your system. Also you may need to run it for more then 10 minutes as the temps may continue to rise.

okay great
yeah i had only stress cpu selected
so stress FPU will over volt my CPU right?

the reason im so apprehensive about this is that we have to pay almost double the price for all the parts as compared to countries like USA here in my country
overvolting my CPU will immediately void the warranty
i just want to test the stock temps for now
i will overclock the CPU
but that is when the weather gets better
right now the temps here are touching 45 degrees in the day time... not the best time to OC

also i hear that Prime95 is very inaccurate with haswell and devil's canyon
and it is also capable of damaging your components
is that true?
i have an i5 4690K

Stress FPU will not void you warranty as though it will increase the voltage going through the chip it is doing it through Intel designed methods. While you are right that you can get better OC in the Winter, overclocking now will give you your worst case overclock. I did my overclock in the winter and it is still functioning just fine in the summer although it does heat up my office uncomfortably warm but that is a different issue.

I have read that running Prime95 for long periods of time is capable of damaging your components. Now I don't know the specifics of that as I personally haven't had it happen to me but that is why people started recommending AIDA64 system stability test as well as Intel Burn Test. The big thing is that both of these tests also monitor your CPU and if anything gets out of line they cancel the test while Prime95 will happily crunch away on numbers until your CPU is a molten slag (I am being overly dramatic it is much more subtle damage then this)
