How to Use Both a Router and a Switch

Hey everyone,

So recently my friends and I moved in together and we just got Internet service. When they installed it they ran everything to my room (second floor). I'm not to concerned with everyone in the house as they can all connect wireless and be fine. However my one buddy that lives on the first floor also plays video games and such so having a wired connection would be ideal. Is it possible to run a switch to his room off the router in my room he can have all his devices hardwired?

Yes, that is a typical configuration

ISP -> modem/router -> devices + switch -> other devices off that switch
