I have a keyboard with PS2 port(old round purple one) and my new mobo has one 2 usb slots for keyboard but no ps2 port
but there is a icon for mouse with one ps2 port and 2 usb port

can I use my ps2 keyboard in ps2 port of mouse.....I have usb mouse

Solution

If you look at the port, it is colored with both the mouse and keyboard connector colors, so you can use it for either.
i dont think so, but you can buy a little converter that goes into the usb and comes out a ps2 port, at least i think... i saw one the other day upstairs that was ps2 to usb so im pretty sure you could get a usb to ps2... or just buy a new 5 dollar keyboard.

why can't I use ps2 port of mouse for my keyboard

Just try it. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, buy an adapter or a new keyboard.

Liek USAFRet said, theres no harm in trying... if it works, then your set... if it dosent, spend like $2.00 on an adapter. or just a new keyboard.

There is no "keyboard" or "mouse" USB ports. A USB port is a USB port, anything with a USB connection can run off it. Are you sure the PS/2 port is a PS/2 port and not a Video port? S-Video nd PS/2 ports look very similar.

You are better off getting a USB keyboard rather than an adapter, the adapters don't work verry well.

I have gigabyte GA z77mx d3h.....I have not tried to connect keyboard ps2 port on mouse's ps2 port.......
I just bought a new cpu so I don't want to screw that up, I can give it a try if it is safe to try

really, I looked the image from here and it has both purple and blue colour, but the strip which is given in the mobo(which I fitted in the cabinet to get these ports) has a icon of mouse on it, but the icon of keyboard has 2 usb ports

Have you tried it yet?

Sounds like you are talking about the back pane cutouts, go by what the actual motherboard has on it.

i just did the stupid thing, I didn't try, my brother was in d shop and bought a $10 HP keyboard.....I tried my old keyboard and it worked just fine........
but that's a secret just among us that I bought a $10 keyboard without trying mine
