The Start screen in Windows 10 is a mix of the one from older versions and the radical changes introduced in Windows 8. Using the Start screen that Windows 10 has is pretty simple and straightforward.

Opening the Start Screen
You can open the Windows 10 Start screen either by clicking the Windows icon from the bottom-left corner of the screen, or by pressing the Windows button available on the keyboard. Once you press the Windows button or click the Windows icon, the Start screen appears as the legacy Start menu.
The opened Start screen is divided into two main sections and a couple of subsections which are explained below:

The Left Section
■The left section of the Start screen is more like the legacy Start menu with links to important folders and apps.
■The top-left corner of the Start screen displays the name of the logged on user which when clicked comes up with a list of options allowing you to sign out, lock the PC, or change the account settings.

■If you have already used any app or are a frequent user of a particular program or programs, you will find all of them in the Most used section present at the lower left section of the Start screen (right under the Places section).

    The Right Section
■Coming to the right section of the Start screen, it is more like a compact version of the Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 Start screen.
■You can click the icon of any app from the right section to open its interface.
■If your desired app’s icon is not visible, you can scroll the section down using the scrollbar that appears as soon as you move the mouse cursor to the right corner of the Start screen. Alternatively you can also hover mouse anywhere to the right section and use the mouse wheel to scroll section up or down as needed.
