Hi,

I would like to seek your assistance. I have a problem here with connecting my hdtv to my pc using hdmi. I recently bought a graphics card (gtx 1060) and samsung hdtv.

The problem is, when i hook up both vga and hdmi to pc it works fine but its always on extended display. When i disable the secondary display, disconnect the vga cable, or disable the onboard graphics card, the tv will produce an invalid format error.

It seems i cant connect my pc to tv using hdmi alone, is there a way to disable the vga on the mobo and just use the hdmi of the graphics card? And only use 1 monitor display? Thank you all in advance!

Btw im on win 10 all drivers up to date.

Solution
make sure you are only connecting to the GPU itself, not the motherboard's I\O plate connections. also make sure you have installed Nvidia Control Panel & latest drivers.

when setting up the displays; right-click on desktop and use Windows built-in Display Settings link.

HDMI vs VGA, HDMI will almost always determine itself as the main display upon restart, no matter how you may have manually set it up. if you have your connections going to the correct ports and it still isn't functioning properly; i would contact the GPU manufacturer.

Hi john,

Thanks for the input. Just a noob question though, how do i make sure im connected to gpu only? If i disconnect the vga cable i get an invalid format on my tv.

Nvidia drivers are up to date as well as the built ing intel hd drivers.

Im trying to use the display settings but whenever i i disable or show only on pc1 it becomes invalid format. Or whenever i use win + P for the projector. I can only use extended option. Thankd
