How to wipe hdd of laptop for clean install of new Linux OS?

I'm going to install Linux Mint 15 and Debian 7 dual boot, but I was told I have to wipe the hdd before I do it since I just want the Linux OS and not the windows anymore. I'm going to install both and I have to partition the drive 50/50 but I have no idea how to do any of this.
Any help would be great.

Just substitute the part that asks you to install windows with your linux os's. Hope it goes smoothly!
