i need to create a charger cord in order to power a usb hub, i took a 2 wire usb cord, red and black, and a 4 wire mini usb cord, black, red, white, green, and tried wiring just the red and black together the device turned on and the light lit up but it would not recognize flash drives i plugged into it, i think i wired it right i wired the red to red and black to black then white positive data wire to the red positive, and the green data wire to the black negative, how ever even tho the light on the usb hub turns on and so do the lights on flash drives or other devices i plug in, it still says the device malfunctioned. i can provide pictures of the device, aswell as screenshots of the error aswell as what it shows in the device manager if needed, any help would be greatly appreciated as i cant afford to buy a new cord right now.... btw when i say just the red and black together i mean red to red black to black, id like to add this is my first time trying anything like this i'm a complete noob and i have done a good amount of research and tried all sorts of solutions, to put this simply for those who don't feel like reading (i'm trying to wire a 2 wire usb cord to a 4 wire mini usb cord, the colors are black and red for usb, green, white, black, and red for mini usb)

Solution
if the mini hub has only two wires the hub is for power supply/charging only.
the white and green are the data lines and they are wires into a transaction translator (tt). The tt is needed as the signal from USB must be translated twice each operation, once at each end on each cable. USB does not use the PC native language for transferal through the wires hence all the translating. without the tt, which would be wired into the HUB and the USB controller, and the requisite circuitry to support it you you can only provide power over the two lines.
red and black are power white and green are data.
for a charger, which is what you made having only the power connected, the data lines are not connected and so no communication between the device and the computer can occur.

so what you did as far as I can tell is you are powering the hub, with no data . the hub is now a multi usb charger. without the white and green connected that is all that will happen.

the 2 wire USB cord is charger only. you need a 4 wire USB to enable communications via white and green

thank you for answering me, aswell i said that backwords, its a 4 wire usb, and a 2 wire mini usb, is there anyway i could make this work so i don't have to actually go out and buy another cord? even if it means having to attach 4 wires to the mini usb id be willing to do that, whatever it takes to actually be able to accomplish this without spending money tho i have no idea how i would go about that, if you have any ideas let me know.
