I have a Dell 8400 ( I know I am going to hear bad thing about my Dell)
P4 Prescott 3.2
2 gigs of 533 ddr2 ram
BFG 7900GT
Will this do until the DX 10 cards are out long enough to get the bugs worked out? By the way, I couldn't get an eVGA 7900 to work in my Dell but the BFG runs great. Must have been a bad batch for so many Dell customers to have problems with the eVGA cards and then have other 7900 vendors cards work. I am able to run FEAR on max settings at 1280 x 1024 , soft shadows and all with no problem.

Nothing is built to last anymore, so it will go for quite a while but it is not going to live forever, a friend bought a radeon 7200 for $1500 when it came out and 3 years later it is basically only useful to run office so no matter what you get it's top life is only about 3 years.

You ought to last well into 2007... Pending ofcourse how much game tech will be pushed. But, seeing that we might only see Vista next year, and the near impossibility of DX10 running in XP (I'm assuming, based on what I've read on the web), DX9 will be used extensively for the rest of this year - so expect alot of HDR intensive titles. The 7900 will run these types of games quite well. The only upgrade, if any, would be your CPU. But pending on the impact Ageia might make, the CPU might be replaced by a Physx CPU, seeing that it will take quite a load off any system.

In short, your system is A-Okay...for now!
