Hello! I was wondering how this upgrade would fit into my PC. Currently I'm running a i5 3470 being cooled by a Corsair H60 on a Gigabyte H77, 2x4GB 1600Mhz DDR3 Corsair Vengeance, included with a GTX 1060 6GB by MSI, along with a 700watt Corsair PSU. All I need to run at one time is OBS, Discord, Spotify, & the game of choice I'll be streaming. I stream mostly Rainbow 6 Siege, CSGO, & Fortnite all at lowest-medium settings because I don't care about looks, most games play with decent FPS just not 144fps to look that smooth on my monitor, mostly... a lot of stuttering and random drops & long load in times. My goal is to stream 720p60fps (because that's the highest non-affiliated Twitch users can stream) and have high enough FPS to keep up with my 144hz monitor. I'm looking into a i5 6600k w/ a z170 OR any motherboard overclockable, compatible, & would cost about $60-$90. I'm looking into ONLY upgrading my CPU/Motherboard. How much of a boost will this part give my computer? Is it compatible? Are there better options? Let me know!

Model of your PSU? How old is the unit?

First and foremost, for streaming while gaming, I'd say you'll be struggling especially on R6:S. You also will need to buy new ram and your PSU will likely need a swap. I'd keep the current system as a streaming machine and another system as one dedicated to gaming only.

Just about a year as of now

You would get better streaming performance, dropping a 3770/3770k/E3 1230v2(or higher), into your current system. Streaming, you need those extra threads. You would need DDR4 for a 6600k. For the cost, you would be better off going with a Ryzen build, over upgrading to another dead end platform. What is your actual upgrade budget?

$400 USD, I'm now looking into just getting a CPU fan, & installing Windows for my OTHER PC, and using that to stream, since my current pc can keep up wit 144fps other pc specs here: AMD fx8320, Gigabyte GA78lmt, 8GB ram, 450watt PSU, would this be enough to encode a 720p60fps video and stream it to Twitch?
