How will I know if a processor is compatible?

Solution
1. Sockets must match, each CPU and Motherboard have a unique socket number, they must exactly much to be compatible, but it's not sufficient

2. The Motherboard itself would have to also support the CPU you are trying to plug in. More often than not, if a CPU generation comes out after a motherboard that uses the same socket, a BIOS update is required. A few motherboard chipsets inherently cannot support certain CPU's even with a BIOS update.

Motherboard manufacturers or the company that built the prebuilt comp will usually have a list of compatible CPU's for each specific model

Thanks, but I meant like how do I know if a new processor is compatib;e. The Intel i3 8300 is already in my pc but I'm upgrading it.

Solution

I was thinking the Intel Core i5-3570. As it has the same socket as my current processor. (LGA1155)
