my desktop has an apu (hd 6550d) and i want to be able to play fortnite on medium settings, with an average of at least 60 fps, because right now i only get about 30 fps on low settings and i was thinking about getting a gt 1030, it doesn't break the bank and i'm a casual gamer so it can run other games like overwatch and league of legends, fairly well. but, to install it would i just plug it in, download drivers and that's it?. would i have to disable the integrated graphics? thanks in advance !!!

With a 3800 and something between a 1030 GT and a 1050 TI you are better off dropping down to 720p. At 720p you can start turning up details and getting more stable FPS closer to or beyond what your target is.

Be Careful about buying a 1030 GT if you get one with DDR4 it's pathetically slower than the normal GDDR5. You also don't really need to use the DVD as Windows will contact the Nvidia servers and download what you need. The only thing useful on the disks now are the tweak software each manufacturer has.

Fortnight from my tinkering wont do 60 fps on locked A4 or A6 APU you need something on par with a Athlon X4 860k "$40 Fleabay" most of the unlocked A8's and A10's will give you about the same FPS.

Athlon X4 860 + 1030 GT with DDR5
1080p Low settings and hover around 45 FPS

Athlon X4 860 + 1050 GT
1080p Medium settings and stay about mid 50's FPS

Athlon X4 860 + 1050Ti
1080p High Settings 60 FPS

A Used 960 GTX\R9 280X\R9 380 "$75-$130" are all on par with a 1050 TI but require a 500W power supply, this should be a budget consideration since any of those used can be found for the cost of a new 1030 GT.
