[SOLVED] How would I know if a PCIe NVMe adapter would work on my PC ?

Last time I was talking about this, somebody here on the forums mentioned that the best way for me to get more storage on my pc would be to just add an expansion card for PCIe slot where this would allow me to add more NVMe SSD drives.

Well since this idea stuck with me, I found this ASUS hyper expansion slot card that seems like it's the right thing for the job, but here comes the problem: I don't know if my second PCIe slot actually works right, because the last time I ever attempted using it was when I tried to run dual gpu's again, and that did not work.

Then there is the other thing that bothers me with this idea, and that is that I've read that my primary PCIe slot would start running at x8 instead of x16, so what would that mean for my graphics performance? (primary point of having more space is to install games and have games running at optimal performance)

Just some insight would be great, because I don't want to do something and make all the arrangements and orders and such if it could turn out to not be possible.

Solution
anyways, so to say for every m.2 drive added to an expansion pcie card one would require x4 times that of x16 pcie? ( is that the requirement, guess, right now we know)
x4 and x16 is PCIE slot width (lane count).
PCIE slot can be x16 physically and with only x4 electrical connectivity. That's the second PCIE x16 slot on your motherboard.

I've read that my primary pcie slot would start running at 8x instead of 16x, what would this mean for my graphics performance?
That depends on motherboard. You have to read motherboard specification.

If it is about Gigabyte B460M D3H , then second PCIE x16 (x4) slot runs in x4 mode and using it doesn't impact the first PCIE x16 slot.
You can use M.2 PCIE adapter with single M.2 NVME card in second PCIE x16 (x4) slot.
There exist M.2 PCIE adapters with multiple M.2 slots on it. Those adapters require either x8 or full x16 connectivity. Will not work in your x4 slot.

Yes indeed, I knew there was going to be some limitation! ( thats exactly the knowledge I could not find elswhere)

Thank you, besides that, is there any easy method of knowing if the 4x pcie slot in question on my B460m d3h board is actually in working condition?

Like I said above, I had another gpu installed into that slot and it did not work then? (if this slot has an issue, what issue does it have?)

no the pc did not boot, what could be the issue with this slot besides what you mentioned above?

You know the manufacturers fail to mention that on their store pages!
