How's this build?

If you're going with a non-K CPU, then you definitely don't need the Z-series motherboard. The PSU was overkill. With the small changes there's enough leeway to add an SSD for a speed boost.

I think this is a little better optimized:

This CPU cannot be overclocked, so Z board is essentially overspending. Either get i5 6500K, or a cheaper mobo like H170 or B150, or even H110 as the most budget friendly solution.

The difference in cash is best invested in more RAM - 16GB is the norm today, so get 2x8GB.

Everything else is just fine. Consider an SSD (250GB or more) for a system drive, it is hard for me to recommend any build in 2017 without it.

EDIT: Build above is just about perfect for your needs, I'd only get 16GB instead of 8.

You're overpaying for the motherboard. I'd go with the 4gb rx 480( the memory won't be the bottleneck), 16gb or ram, an ssd, and a better power supply.

I'd go Kabylake as the prices are similar to Skylake with slightly better performance. Also considering the budget I'd pass on a SSD for now and get a better GPU. When you do get a SSD most of them come with OS transfer software so getting the OS from the HDD to a SSD is fairly easy.
