HP 1220C : How to make an even border around image?

Just picked up this A3 printer.

I need to print onto A3 sheets - the bigger the printed area, the better,
but the main thing is to have an even border around the outside say, 1cm.

When I print a portrait A3 image with "scale to fit" enabled, it positions
the image oddly, with a wider border to the right and a bigger border at the
bottom.

How can I change this?

Can I not print the entire sheet? the printer can go up to 13x19inches which
is bigger than A3...?

Any advice appreciated!

Use your graphics program to add the border so it is part of the
picture, then print without borders.

The DeskJet 1220 can print on paper up to 13"x19" but it is not a full bleed
(edge to edge) printer. In an A3 image it needs 0.46" at the bottom, 0.20" on
the sides and 0.12" at the top to properly handle paper. You probably also
have an issue with the aspect ratio as noted in another post. The "scale" will
apply a linear scaling factor, it will not change the aspect ratio. See
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=bpd04816.

The DeskJet 9600 series printers will print up to 13"x19" full borderless.

Sounds like an aspect ratio problem, divide image width (ins or pixels) by
height to get the image aspect ratio. Such as 1.5 to 1 or whatever it comes
out as. Now divide length of paper by width to get the paper ratio, if the
two aspect ratios aren't the same you wont get an even border. I'ts a
major problem with digital camera images, their aspect ratio doesn't fit
any common and readily available paper, so you have to accept loss
of heads and feet or accept a left and right border. Some camera
printer packages throw away some of the pixels (resolution) to force
a fit onto 6 x 4 paper.

Thanks Bob.

How should I format the document to achieve image placement with the borders
you mentioned below (ie- what are the exact printable area dimensions?)

:)
