hello! i had a client drop off a HP with a fuse error code. went to replace battery, opened the unit up and saw THIS:

the entire battery was skewed as you see it, yet all the mounting holes line up!! obviously, this was one of those made badly in the factory. the battery was absolute toast as you could imagine.

the worst part is the device is literally THREE days outside the warranty. is there anything the client can do, or is HP as bad as i read about? this is an obviously poorly built unit that contributed to the battery failure.

Thanks for the advise!

FYI:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06148960.pdf

See physically numbered Pages 38 & 39.

On Page 38:

"When installing the battery, be sure to install screws in the proper locations. The following image shows the locations around the battery that have holes but do NOT require screws ".

I also found a number of HP videos regarding battery replacement:

For example:

Replace the Battery | HP ENVY 17-ce0000 and 17-bw0000 Laptop PC | HP - Bing video

[You will probably need to verify the applicable video for your client's laptop.]

I cannot really tell but it looks to me like someone swapped/replaced the laptop's battery in the past and made a mess of it.

Warranty or not, it will be difficult to make a case that the battery's misalignment is/was a factory error.

Just my thoughts.
