Question HP 300-1020 issue

I updated an HP 300-1020 touchsmart from Win 7 to Win 10 last year and it ran fine for months. M$ botched an update and it seems to have trashed something with the boot sector. SMART checks out fine. Computer sees the drive itself but not the OS. I can dock it or use an USB offline viewer and see everything. I've been tinkering with it for a while now and am running out of ideas to bring it back up. Any ideas?

interesting. I took out that drive and put in a brand new drive. reloaded the image from before I upgraded to win 10 and have the same problem.
