Morning Everybody,

I have a Elitebook 8560w from Hp and would like to upgrade the CPU and the graphics card, please can someone advice on what is possible? I am looking into a 4GB graphics card update and the CPU to the i7 2960XM.

Would that be possible?

What CPU do you have now? Finding an MXM GPU might be an issue. The question is whether HP limits the GPUs that will work in this system (or not).

What is your budget for these upgrades?

What CPU and GPU do you have in your laptop, now?

intel core tm i7-2630QM CPU @ 2GHZ, 2100mhz 4 cores and the graphics card is Nvidia Quadro 1000m.

I saw on the net a GTX 965m being installed in the same laptop as mine however i dont know if thats possible.

the i7 - 2960XM is not on the list from HP, however the performance is slight better, is that option possible?

The highest HP recomends is i7 - 2820QM 2.3 GHZ also Quad core,

the i7 - 2960XM is 2.7GHZ also quad core, just faster?

If a non-listed CPU worked, I would be surprised. If it did, it may be too much for the heat dissipation capacity of the laptop. Just something to keep in mind.

no i apparently need a mxm 3.0 Type A graphics card, its much shorter than the Normal Type B.

You will get a resounding "maybe". You won't know until you try.

Regarding the CPU, the 2820 will provide some improvement, but the overall difference is likely to be small.

For all the expense and hassle, you might be better served by saving for an entirely new (and more capable) rig.
