My 870Cxi prints lines (Black) that are not solid. I have replaced the Black
cartridge but
it doesn't help. I am hoping someone may have a clue as to how to approach
the problem.
It must be something in the electronics(?)

It is possible that the service station has filled up and is now rubbing on the
bottom of the black cartridge, causing the print quality problem you are
seeing. You can clean this area as shown at the following:

.. The procedure is relatively simple but can be messy. Pay attention to the
suggestion to put down newspaper and be careful not to drop the blob of sludge
on your desk or carpet.
