In control panel I see hp product assist hp solution center and hp update. Ihave also ran hp printer and sca n doctor and it comes up with the following faults hp twain scan fault
hp scanflow manager fault,front panel test fault and registry fault.

With respect, none of that answers either of my questions. Regardless of the HP bloatware, Vista must have a view on whether or not it can "see" the printer. If it cannot, and on the light of your post about the HP results and the number of times you reinstalled, it must be a dud.
