CHINA, Apr 23, 2004 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- Hewlett Packard (HP) and AMD
cooperatively launched a desktop PC that adopts AMD's Athlon 64-bit CPU in the
Chinese market.
As AMD's rival, Intel has been pushed under great pressure.
Spokesman of AMD China revealed that it was the first important achievement of
the sales of Athlon CPU in China. Moreover, it is also the first time that AMD's
64-bit CPU was adopted by multinational company.
At the same time, HP released its Pavilion a536cl PC in eight cities including
Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. In addition,AMD's Athlon 64-bit CPU that was
launched in September 2003 was the first one that could process both 32-bit and
64-bit software.
Additionally, the sales of PC in China reached 12.9 million units in 2003,
rising by 17.4%. The sales value hit CNY 92.2 billion (USD 1 = CNY 8.2767 as of
April 22). The compound annual growth rate in China's PC market was predicted to
reach 17.4% between 2003 and 2007.
