HP Compaq 6710b WiFi switch

I cannot turn on the WiFi on my HP Compaq 6710b.
I go into Settings - Wireless Network Connection, but it won't let me flick the on screen switch and I cannot find an actual switch on the laptop body.
Is there another way to switch it on, perhaps using function keys, if so, which ones... ?
