HP Compaq ultra slim desktop with Winxp. Browser IE 8. Changed OS from French to English, I had to solve a few driver problems. Now when I put the PC in standby, some noise remains, could be the disk or more probably the fan. Under the French OS I did not have this problem.
Resume from standby by touching any key on the keyboard is enabled. I read that disabling this feature could stop the noise in standby. But my keyboard does not have the option to enable or disable wake-up from standby. In the BIOS the fan's idle speed can be adjusted, but can't be reduced to nil.
No doubt a great success of Microsoft and/or HP.
I tried as an alternative hibernation, but there the problem is the other way round: it stops all noise, but can't wake up: it displays the message "resuming windows", but the screen remains black.
Any help/suggestion is welcome.
