Hp compaq nc6000 wireless xp problem

I have a Compaq nc6000. HP WLAN adapter 802.11 a/b network adapter and can't get online wireless. I can see my network and it shows a strong signal but I can't connect on this laptop. I'm running xp and saw that I might need to change from WEP to WAP but can't find the download. Any one else run into this? I can get online if I run the cable.
