I recently purchased a HP compaq pro 6300 microtower from ebay, mainly looking for a good processor/base build to start out a gaming build. Little did I know that the power supply is using three 4-pin power connectors and a single 6-pin for power to the motherboard. I was planning on putting a RX 480 or GTX 970/980 in this build with an upgraded psu. But I can't seem to find any with this weird form factor. I don't know if I can put a different motherboard in this case and get a new psu or did i effectively just buy the cpu some ram and a hard drive? Any Help is very appreciated!!

EDIT : Would it be possible to use a second power supply for just the graphics card? Thanks!

Ok Listen Carefully , This power supply is good , it Gives 320 Watts on 12V

This is Enough for you System with GTX 1060

dont worry about the power , the card comes with a power adapter to use with 4 pins ...

if not buy it alone .

4-pin molex? if that's what you're referring to, I don't have any with this psu unfortunately. its all sata and the weird mb power connectors (one 6-pin, three 4-pin)

you will need this adapter

That's most of them the others are for fans.

EDIT : Can I use those for motherboard or just PCI power?

Then use SATA to PCIE Adapter , you need to buy one ...

and if the cables dont reach get SATA power extender or splitter

This is my main concern. Instead of being one 20/24 pin its multiple pins. I am needing to know if there are power supplies made like this form factor so i can upgrade them? I don't exactly trust the one in the computer currently.

you cant upgrade this power supply it has non standard plugs. But it is very good one . This is a business grade PC not cheap one .

320 watts on 12v , you dont need more for your PC and GTX 1060.. you just need to take the power from the sata plugs. and it is no big deal just 50 watts the rest from the mobo .. GTX 1060 consumes 120 watts only .. Thats the max graphics you can get your power supply can handle with other components ..

( CPU+MOBO+fans+drives = 170 watts ) + 120 = 290 watts

Did you manage to make the upgrade.... I'm looking closely at the same PC to do the same. I would be happy with the Rx480 4gb or 1060 3gb....

I SUCCEEDED :)

I managed to install an EVGA 1060 single fan SC 6GB into my HP Pro 6300. And it works!

1. It was the only 1060 GPU I could fit, as longer cards would hit the CPU cooler.
2. Most likely your i5 + GTX 1060 will never use more than 220W (see example here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyMlMgMIrL8)
3. I would be more concerned with AMD 470 - 580 etc that get closer to the 280W - 330W (https://youtu.be/mIpOx8YUXuU?t=7m14s)
4. As several people have commented in this thread that the PSU is 320W of continuous use and a good quality one from Lite On with 90+ rating. (87/90/87% efficient @ 20/50/100% load). This means that it can power a GTX 1060 with no problem!
5. I pulled power from one of these bad boys adn stole the STAT power from a missing HDD and the DVD. (https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATPCIEX8ADP-6-Inch-Express-Adapter/dp/B007Y91B80/ref=pd_sim_147_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B007Y8FSMQ&pd_rd_r=GVKTT6EV8TZ7HXHFVRMX&pd_rd_w=n3Ry1&pd_rd_wg=pWixO&refRID=GVKTT6EV8TZ7HXHFVRMX&th=1)
6. You might need an extender.
7. Now game :)
