HP CPU upgrade same as Intel own chip?

I am looking to build a dual Xeon system, and when I look at the market (x5675 for example), it is flooded with "HP processor upgrades", often come at a cheaper price than Intel retail package.

Are they in fact identical products? Can I put a HP Xeon on a non-HP motherboard and still expect it to work?

It should work because there's no HP specific version. However the warranty won't be the same (bulk vs retail) and you'll probably have to buy a cooler.

Generally I believe they are OEM so they don't come with the same heatsink, product stickers, and box as the retail version, but really it's the same CPU.

To confirm once again, yes the HP CPU's are standard OEM CPU's, it the CPU ONLY, so not heatsink. I buy form HP allot at work, so have used HP products b4.
