I have a HP Deskjet 882C that has worked fine on Win-Me. Installed
printer on a PC with Win-XP Pro and it worked but has a problem. It
cycles one sheet of paper every time the PC is started up and does so
every so often as the PC is used. At times the paper stops half way and
the Printer warning light starts blinking. One push of the warning
lighted button (paper feed) and it cycles the half fed sheet and it is
OK for a while.
I have been advised to download the XP drivers but when I do it says
the XP drivers are already installed.
I tried to install the drivers from the HP 882C CD but it rejected it.
Does anyone have a clue?

Did you install the software first before plugging in the printer?
Uninstall & reinstall Printer

Uninstall the printer. The either physically disconnect it from the PC or
turn it off.

Look for updated drivers from the HP website.

Install the drivers and do NOT reconnect the drivers until the software
tells you to do so. Make sure you and your PC/Printer are all in the same
country and using the same sizes of paper. I've seen this happen when
Letter sized is set and you're using A4 and vice versa
