Anybody heard anything good about the HP 990? PCMag's review is inconsistent. It says it has the best output but it gets the lowest scores of all the HP's.
I am seriously considering the HP 970. I really like the duplexing feature. Anybody know how it does in photo output?
I don't like Cannon printers from previous experience and I don't trust Epson. HP has never disappointed me so I am sticking with HP.

Not to say anything bad about HP's but did you ever consider Lexmark's Z52 printer? It goes for about 179 at best but or 141 at mwave.com. It prints 15ppm black and 7 color. I just bought it and got the photo ink and it prints out my digital pictures very nice. It has a resolution of 2400x1200. I have tried my other pictures at best buys HP's and the quality of my pics were nearly the same(on photo paper).

Yes the Lexmark Z52 is a great printer, so is the HP950, the good thing about the 950 is it has a cancel print button so you just hit the button and it stops, They both have 2400x1200 res and the cartridges are a similar price (Bloody expensive!!) The HP has the Photoret3 technology, but the Lexmark has the Lexpress warranty whereby if it breaks down they send you another one and pick up the old one (In Aust anyway)

I have been dealing with printers for about 7 years in the retail field now and I cant say enough good things about the Hewlett Packards! The 900 series in particular has been probably one of the biggest jumps in photo technology that I have seen! The PhotoRet III technology is amazing and the fact that HP is the only printer that has colour layering giving you up to 29 drops per pixel (3500 different colour combinations). On the other hand, Epson and Canon use water based inks so it dries too fast to be able to layer colours. This is why both of these brands generally have higher resolution than HP because the pixels have to be finer in order to visually get the colours that HP produces. The other thing is that water based inks tend to soak into the page more than acrylic. Therefore, whenever you hear about photo quality on a Canon or Epson, specialty paper is usually mentioned in the same sentence. This REALLY increases the cost of printing. I'm not saying that HP doesn't look better on satin coated or glossy paper. It's just that you can get a really good print even on standard 20lb bond paper! LONG LIVE HP!

I've recently bought the 970 and it is fantastic! It's so quick and the quality is unsurpassed by any other printer I've seen (including a HP 4000 colour!). Yeah seriously, I compared two London underground maps printed on each printer and the 970 was better!

The duplexer is cute, good for single documents, but would be too slow for multiple copy runs.

The photo quality is superb, especially onto photo paper.
Oh and did I mention it was quiet? I have to check it's still printing if I leave the room!!

So I think you get the picture, I like it!

From what I gather, the only real difference between the 970 and the 990 is that the 990 is quicker. Same print engine etc...
