Sorry for the horrible title, I guess this is the right section? So I have had this laptop for just over a year. Suddenly yesterday the computer started to act really weird specifically Cortana (the menu) wouldn't open, the start menu wouldn't open, it kept saying I had notifications in the notification menu, but when I clicked it it was blank, and Chrome kept freezing and would not minimize.
This morning when I woke up to use my laptop it kept going to a grey screen (could be user preferences, because my theme is grey). It's like it kept going to sleep and wouldn't wake up.
I turned off sleep and in advanced settings. Still did it. Then I noticed I had a system update, which was a bunch of things, and I did all of them thinking that would help - everything from a BIOS update to my Realtek settings.
That? Made things worse lol. I'm not one of those people that tried one thing and then came here to cry lol. I tried many things but I am only limited to my ability and knowledge and now I am asking for help.
There is considerable lag. As soon as I restart my laptop, the icons in my taskbar take a good 5 minutes to show up - never did that before. I tried opening EDGE and it said it was open in my task manager, but I couldn't see it. Everything either won't open, says its open and I don't see it or opens and then crashes. Start menu for instance? Won't open at all. Even my wifi connection, takes a few minutes to show up - again none of this happened before yesterday.
What I tried:
I did a system restore from 3 days ago and a system restore from December 30th.
I tried to disable cortona thinking that had something to do with it.
I turned "location" off since someone said that would work (for some reason?).
I tried doing a scannow at the CMD, it said some files could not be scanned.
Someone suggested going to (I cant remember where) and turning Microsoft Shadow on and changing it to automatic, along with Task Start Up.
I unistalled all my anti virus programs because restore point said it wasnt working originally because one of my anti virus programs was blocking a file. I then reinstalled Spybot Search and Destroy, AVG and Malwarbytes, did a scan and it found nothing.
I don't know what else to do. I don't understand why its suddenly doing this. I know we had an update in think in December that a lot of people are complaining about, but I checked issues that people were having and none of those issues are my issues.

Update: It froze again, I rebooted and got the Repair and Diagnostics screen. Oh boy. I know this isn't good lol. I saved a back up but it didn't seem to save my documents? Uh? What?
