Hi-

I have an HP laptop that stopped booting and turning on, and would not charge. I took it apart and disconnected the DC power jack. The charging LED did not turn on. I bought a replacement and the same happened. I do not know what to do, I read somewhere that the jack has to be connected to the mobo to show an LED. I tried it with the replacement connected and it still does not work. Is the mobo dead?

  1. The charge is outputting the appropriate voltage listed on the unit.
  2. The power port " I assume it's on a removable socket" is plugged in.
  3. The battery shows no signs of damage "Expanded, leaking..etc"
  4. You have tried to power up with the battery disconnected?
  5. You have metered the soldered points where the power jack socket plugs into the motherboard for Voltage?
  6. You have metered the wires at the battery for Voltage? The voltage at this point should always be on.

If your answers look like this.

  1. Yes
  2. Yes
  3. Yes- Looks good
  4. Yes- No luck
  5. Yes- I see power
  6. Yes- I see nothing

Then the power switching circuit is fried. "Not so cheap or easy to fix"
