Hp laptop help

I have a Hp Envy M7 17"
when I don't use it for awhile say 5 or 10 minutes the screen will turn black and I have to hard restart it. I have found out why it does this but the settings will revert back to default. In power settings my turn hard disk off on battery says 0 when i change it to never and hit apply it works for awhile until i restart the it says 0 again. is it a bad cmos battery please Help.

If it was the battery your BIOS settings would revert back to defaults, including the time. Maybe a corrupt registry or something else. See if there is BIOS update, power manager update and any Windows updates that need to be installed.
