So I have a HP ProBook 4540s and according to Crucial.com's advisory tool my RAM should be DDR3 1600Mhz, CL 11, 1.35V and max supported memory is 16GB. - http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/probook-4540s

I'm limited in my choices due to the region I'm from but this seems to match the specs:

However my laptop is not in the compatible systems list, but as the specs are the same, would it work?

Also the ProBook 4540s also has this issue with the BIOS or whatever and HP has changed their specs to saying the 4540s only supports 8GB total now, but the HP forum seems to have found a work around:

I'm hoping to upgrade to 16GB later on but for now I'm going to test it out with 12GB(4GB+8GB). I know the only way to know for sure is try it out, but no where around here has a good return policy and the price here is kind of high unfortunately.

Hey Triple-J. I can't find the RAM information from the link that you've provided, is their an online shop link (such as newegg) that you can give me to take a look?

Sorry for the late reply harryfish, I thought that the forum sends an automated email whenever someone replies. Anyways I went ahead and got the following:
http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/?partid=kvr16s11/8

It's not on the compatible systems list but it works with my 4GB HP one after I followed the HP forum's instructions. However my CPU usage had strangely increased to near 40% idle due to the Superfetch process after the upgrade to 12GB, went down to 20% after disabling which is still higher than the usual 5% Still it's off-topic and not an issue for now so I guess it's ok...

Okay, great to hear. If you could mark my post as solved, it'll help me out and let others know that your issue is resolved. If you could start a new thread on your CPU issue and post the link to the new thread in this thread, it'll allow more people to see your CPU issue and see whether they can help you.
