HP laptop will not recognize SSD

Laptop model is HP G7-2341dx.

I recently upgraded my desktops SSD and acquired a free laptop. For some strange reason the laptop will not recognize the SSD. I looked online and apparently countless people are having this issue. The bios is pretty basic, no IDE, AHCI, RAID ect. I regular HDD works just fine. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Since the present laptop's HDD boot drive "works just fine", couldn't you just clone the contents of that drive to the SSD which you would connect as a USB external device and then install the SSD as the laptop's boot drive? I'm assuming, of course, that the disk-space capacity of the SSD is sufficient to contain the total data contents of the HDD. Unfortunately you've provided no information re the volume of data involved and the size of the drives.

Laptop never came with an HDD. I have a 40GB drive that came from a ps3, it recognizes it at windows installation but it's just clicks forever when trying to delete the partitions. As for the SSD, it's a Samsung EVO 250GB that was cloned and pulled from my main rig, fully functional. I've been reading countless forumns online where people have issues getting SSD's to recognize on HP laptops. Main fault is due to the sata plugin that connects to the mainboard. Seems to be in good condition but it's missing some contact pins on every adapter I see.
