My situation is that my laptop will not connect to my monitor. I have tried both VGA and HDMI and neither work. I have tried the monitor on a different laptop and it works but will not for this one. Under the devices it says that there is a generic PnP monitor connected, though on the other computer it shows the specific name and specs.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried to update your display driver? It works with me just fine. If you are using windows 8, search 'device manager'. Under the option for 'display adapter' you will find your graphic card driver. If you have NVDIA graphic card, then you probably have 2 graphic card drivers. Just click on them, and click option 'update driver'. Works like magic to me.
