HP Laptop Wont Start

Last night I found the cat sleeping on the laptop keyboard with lots of odd windows open. I closed everything and shut it down to restart. When it attempted to restart I got the screen with the recommended "launch startup repair", however, it shut down without launching the repair. I hit the power button again and again it shut down. Now it will not even attempt to power up. Do you have any idea what's going on, and if there is anything I can do to fix this?

This would be the first thing I would try with mine. It is simple but it does wonders sometimes.

Make sure it is not plugged into a power source and remove the battery from the laptop.

Then with it unplugged and the battery out, hold down the power button for about 20 seconds.

Put the battery back in and then try and boot up the machine.
