HP Laserjet 4000 paper size issue.........

We have recently changed printers to HP Laserjet 4000. The problem we
have is that default our co. uses Letter paper which we have set for
the lower tray (Tray2). We have also set on the printer Tray1 to A4.

The problem arises b/c sometimes we have users printing to A4 documents
and when they send the document it automatically gets sent to tray2
(Letter) instead of A4.

I have set on our print server Paper Source - automatically select.
Then when users print A4 docs they go into Word and change to Tray1 but
in the end the A4 still ends up coming out as Letter from tray2....
We've tested this several times but can't fugure out what were doing
wrong...........

Anyone help please.........

Zeno-

When you changed printers, did you update the drivers in all the user's
machines? Funny things could happen if you didn't!

Check your paper tray. It may be out of kilter in some way. Normally the
settings for trays 2,3 or 4, are read by the printer to know what size
paper it contains. When the tray size does not agree with the requested
size, an error message is generated and the printer stops and waits for
attention.

One thing I don't understand, is why your printer sends a job to Tray 2
when there is paper in Tray 1 (The "Hand Feed" tray). Many times my
attempts to print on special forms have been foiled by others printing
ahead of me. In every case I can recall using HP printers, they take
paper from Tray 1 if it has any, instead of from one of the other trays.
