Actually found a solution with the help of another forum, kickenhardware.net: On printer itself | system menu, I was able to change a setting to when "Supplies are Out." That did the trick.

I have new printer cartridges on order that are scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Best price, BTW, came from Amazon.
