First off, I have replace hardware before but always with identical hardware or within OEM recommendations. So...
I need to upgrade 3 HP ML110 servers that currently have i3-2120 CPUs. OEM states that I can use v1 of E3-1280, E3-1270, E3-1240, E3-1230, or E3-1220. They use a LGA1155 socket.
Would I also be able to use the v2 (E3-12x0) CPUs (or other LGA1155 sockets CPUs) or is there a difference? FSB?
The v2's seem to be a lot cheaper, probably due to supply.
Also can I reuse the heatsink?
