Hello, good day everyone.

I need help please, my HP prodesk 490 g2 mt motherboard won't use my ram at its maximum bandwidth. The pc i bought came with basic 8(4x2) gb 1600 mhz ddr3 memory and they were installed properly, after that i bought corsair dominator platinum 16(8x2) gb 1866 mhz ddr3 for a good price, so i read the specifications of the motherboard and it said 1600 mhz memory is its maximum bandwidth.

I've looked through a lot of topics in the internet saying that if you installed faster memory on slower motherboard, it will just read it at its maximum bandwidth (1600 MHz).

When i installed them the bios reads the ram as 1333 mhz each only, i have updated the bios, searched and poked everywhere to make it at maximum bandwidth (1600 mhz) but without any success.

How do i make the ram 1600 mhz? I'm pretty sure there is a confliction between the memory and the motherboard i have. I bought this computer for gaming and overall i don't feel satisfied for some reason, most of the games which i run at ultra. v-sync off only reach fps between 50-70 maximum! I expected much more from a rig like this! Everything is installed properly and up to date, i want to know what is wrong with my pc. Please help and thank you.

You should try to go into the BIOS, ( our site has the linker for how to enter the BIOS https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/bios-keys-to-access-your-firmware,5732.html ), then go to the memory section to see you can use the "enable XMP profile" feature or not, because the corsair RAM was set by the manufacturer to 1333mhz, ( you can see that in corsair site: https://www.corsair.com/ca/en/Categories/Products/Memory/DOMINATOR%C2%AE-PLATINUM-%E2%80%94-16GB-%282-x-8GB%29-DDR3-DRAM-1866MHz-C9-Memory-Kit/p/CMD16GX3M2A1866C9 ) if you want to use the 1600mhz, you have to use the XMP profile for up to 1866mhz. Keep in mind you can't oc to 1866mhz, because HP did block the oc features, like you said only up to 1600mhz.

If you can't find the XMP...

If you can't find the XMP feature, you are out of luck.

Damn! thanks for clarifying this, i had no idea what is the SPD speed, this crappy motherboard will only run the memory chips at its spd speed and does not have XMP and does not allow to manually adjut ram speeds. Thank you!

Btw since these corsair RAM chips has tested speed of 1866, if i bought another motherboard for example that has XMP enabled and maximum bandwidth of 2133 mhz. That means i can OC my ram from 1866 to 2133 mhz right?

Yes, if you will buy the retail brand motherboard, you can run 1866mhz, how fat you can go, I don' know. But from one review, they can oc the RAM to 2400mhz. http://www.ocdrift.com/review-corsair-dominator-platinum-ddr3-1866mhz-c9-8gb-memory-kit/
