HP Motherboard won't boot from a USB

I have a motherboard from a HP ENVY h8-1534 Desktop PC. The motherboard is the M3970AM-HP (Angelica2) and I'm using it with the same AMD processor and ram it came with. I have put it into a new case with a new 500W power supply, MSI graphics card, and 1TB hard drive.

For some reason when I try to boot off of a USB (to install windows) I get an error message saying that it doesn't recognize the USB. Though in the BIOS it does say that it recognizes the USB.

Can HP motherboards not be in other systems like normal motherboards? Is there anything I should be doing differently?

I would check to make sure you can boot from other devices, CD/DVD, another bootable USB, etc.

There shouldn't be anything limiting the interaction between your hardware and the MoBo.

Thank you for your help! I figured it out and you were right. All I had to make the USB bootable using the command prompt. Apparently it has to be an active partition for BIOS to be able to boot from it. (instructions here: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-USB-Bootable )
