I bought the hp omen to replace my old computer I was thinking about taking the graphics card, cpu, ram, ssd, and hdd from the new hp omen and put into my old case.

The hp omen has
Gtx 1070
I7 7700
Odense 2-k motherboard
16 Gb ram (8x8)
250gb ssd
1 tb hdd
80 bronze 470w max power supply

My old rig
Gtx 960
I5 5500
Gigabyte GA z170x gaming 3
8gb ram(4x4)
250gb ssd
1 tb hdd
80 gold 1000w max power supply
Has liquid cooling

Was thinking about combining the systems into one, because my old system is full size case with a lot more room for upgrades with better power supply and is liquid cooled.

I just don’t know if my gigabyte motherboard is as good as the one that comes with hp omen. I can’t add ram or another ssd or hdd to the omen it only has Two ram slots and 3 sata 1 hdd 1 ssd and 1 cd/dvd. The old motherboard has 6 sata 4 ram slots with them able to use the 4x4 and 8x8 on dual channels. Also I like the old is liquid cooled.

Setup if combined

Gtx 1070
I7 7700
Gigabyte GA z170x gaming 3
24 gb ram (8x8) & (4x4)
250gb ssd x 2
1 tb hdd x 2
80 gold 1000w max power supply

I suggest:

Gigabyte GA z170x gaming 3.... from old rig
Core i7 7700... from OMEN (Update the motherboard to the latest BIOS before installing the Core i7 7700 .)
GTX 1070 ...from OMEN
16 GB RAM (2 x 8) ...from OMEN (mixing RAM could be problematic)
250gb ssd x 2...from OMEN + old rig
1 tb hdd x 2... from OMEN + old rig
1000W PSU... from old rig (I hope is a good quality PSU) if not then the 470W PSU from the OMEN they are good quality PSU.

Okay, I wasn’t sure which motherboard would be better. The old case with the gigabyte is a lot bigger with a lot more airflow. The power supply is from cyber power I also have a Corsair 600w power supply.

Both motherboard are good but the Gigabyte serves you better.
Could you post the models of the Cyber Power and Corsair PSUs?

Well everything went good everything is running smooth. The ram is working good together, not sure what exactly is causing it but pc is faster with the new setup the gtx 1070 is running at around 30c so that good I love liquid cooling%..

Now I need to learn to overclock to get the most out of it

Stress test the system to make sure is stable before overclocking.

and you may wanto to keep track of temps you don't need hardware hitting dangerous heat levels
