Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a HP Pavilion P7-1447C desktop and was looking to upgrade the video card. I am going to be doing a good amount of editing with Premiere Pro and After Effects CS6. Any recommendations on an upgrade under $250-$300?

I have an available PCI Express x16 slot that isn't used.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You'll be severely limited by your computer's power supply, which is 300W, per this. Your power supply may also lack the necessary connections for a video card. Although, since the PSU is ATX, you'd be able to replace it.

The best course of action would be to replace the PSU before replacing the GPU. Word of advice: ONLY go with a high quality brand (SeaSonic, Corsair I can name off the back of my head).

After that, assuming you still have $250-$300 to spend, go for either the GTX 660 or the 7870 XT (best graphics cards at ~$250, or the 660 Ti or the 7950, which are the best at ~$300)

Thanks for the recommendations. That definitely helps me narrow down my search. I actually have a Rosewill RG530-S12 530W PSU from my old tower that I could drop in.

Here are the specs on the PSU... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182199

It looks like my PCI Express x16 is a gen 2.0, will this cause any problems with cards that are gen x16 3.0?
