Hi, got this pc for free because it didnt work anymore.

I decided to try fix it because it still has some sweet specs.

Hardware: HP Pavilion 500-118eb
CPU: Intel i7-4770
GPU: AMD HD 8570
Mobo: IPM87-MP
RAM: 8GB DDR3

So when I put in a power cord the psu led flashes so I followed these steps from HP.

So if I only disconnect the 24 pin ATX power cord from the mobo and the psu led stays green, does that mean my mobo is dead?

How can I make sure it's my motherboard and not my cpu?

Nope, still the same.
psu led keeps flashing but as soon as I pull out the 24 pin ATX to the mobo it stays green.
Keep in mind that I was never able to boot the pc.

I think it's best that I buy a new lga 1150 board and see if it works.

Seems like the psu works with the paperclip method, just got the opportunity to test the cpu on another computer and it works fine.

So the only component to blame seems like the motherboard.

Just small reminder for future possible problems.
Paperclip test is just to test fan of the PSU and see if the PSU starts, so it can`t be very confident solution if it really outputs correct voltages.
Anyway, I am glad that you fixed your problem and got PC for cheap :)

Mark answer as solution if it helped you as people will find it easier if they have similar issue(s).
