Errr. looking to upgrade graphic card. so I can get rid of black screen...before that was a blue screen. I have a Geforce 8500 GT. budget is around $100
I mainly use desktop for gaming and watching videos. Went to Best Buy and found 9500 gt, Radeon 4550, 4670 under $100. . . however one of the sales reps there says I will need to upgrade psu. If was to upgrade.
games I play is eveonline and soon final fantasy XI...as far as resolution do not know really. I have a black screen everytime I boot up desktop...maybe 1080 or 1280? roughly? Honestly do not know.
Is there something I should worry about. I like something I shouldn't do with the card? Downloading stuff? watching videos? surfing the net? burning cd...which I yet to do (probably won't anyway)? transfering data to thumb drive? etc?

hehe, what he meant was that if its just for an MMO its fine, but for more demanding games like crysis it might not get great performance

everything you mentioned will be fine, you should not worry, just install the drivers for the graphics card when you get it haha, download them from amd
if you plan on playing games like crysis, or crysis 2 on a resolution above 1280x1024 you will have problems haha, i say you can run crysis in high medium settings at that resolution if u plan on playing very demanding games
Like megabobe said above, the 6670 would work fine as would a very similar 5670, it is currently one of the best GPU's for the money and the power requirements. Most 5670's or 6670's will run on most 350W power supplies. AMD excels in the lower end card market today. You can do anything you like with the card, just if it overheats you may have a problem; those HP cases do not have the greatest circulation. Watch your temperatures with something like MSI Afterburner and adjust the fan as needed
Hey, so I just had a gander at your motherboard... which turns out to be an ECS MCP61PM-HM. Processor socket is AM2+ so you could put a phenom II in it later on which is not too bad of a processor (meaning its still worth it to spend money on the system)
One thing to consider is the powersupply is probably the cheapest cheap garbage that the company could put in. Something could be partially broken in it and causing only the videocard to flake/burn out. It would probably be worth it to open up the powersupply and see if there is anything obviously wrong inside (burnt resister, leaking capacitor... etc).
Current videocard is...
GeForce 8500GT
256 MB GDDR2 memory
I/O Ports: HDMI, dual-link DVI , S-video
Edit
Was not paying attention, but evidently the motherboard has a built in video card as well as the 8500GT... The nVidia GeForce 6150SE which is quite a bit worse yet(performance wise). But.. you might be able to function with it if money is extremely tight. According to the website you will need to unplug the existing videocard to get it to work(?)
...? that can't be right... PSU Guide 101 - always pick up reliable/reputed brand psu's so that you and your pc parts are content for the duration of usage.
that 300W max powersupply means it can deliver a maximum of 300W but if i were to open up that psu I can say for certain, it can only provide 200W of power at peak capacity/load and then give up the ghost.
get a new GPU - fine but also pick up a good psu with it - one that you can transplant to another system if you choose to upgrade rig or GPU.
