Question HP Pavilion a1700n(RK572AA)

I am new to toms hardware and a novice when it comes to computers. My question is, my HP pavilion has an Athlon 64 X2 (W) 3800+ 2.0 GHz processer, 2000 MT/s (mega transfers/second), Socket AM2. HP says I can upgrade to a 5000+. Will this upgrade make a significant improvement? Thanks.

Some, but not much. That's some pretty ancient hardware you have there. Unless you're getting the processor for free, I wouldn't bother.
